Recipe - Salad With Surprise Topping

Mixture of lettuces;
(mesclun) or ... use
spinach and strawberries or
raspberries
DRESSING
One fourth cup White sugar
One half tablespoon Poppy seeds
One fourth teaspoon Paprika
One half cup Vegetable oil
One fourth cup Raspberry vinegar
2 teaspoon Finely chopped onion
One fourth teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
SURPRISE TOPPING
One half cup Slivered almonds
One fourth cup White sugar
2 teaspoon Water
And the surprise you've been waiting for ...
Surprise Topping: Combine topping ingredients in large frying pan. Cook
over medium heat, stirring until sugar melts to golden brown and coats
almonds (about 5 min.) Turn onto greased foil. Cool, then break up into
small pieces.
Just before serving salad, pour dressing over and top with topping.
(you can prepare a few batches of almonds and keep in a safe place .. but
it somehow disappears!)
