Recipe - Pealing Bells

2 cup Flour
1 One half teaspoon Baking powder
6 tablespoon Butter or margarine
1/3 cup Shortening
Three fourths cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 tablespoon Milk
1 teaspoon Grated orange peel
1 teaspoon Vanilla
25 Maraschino cherries; halved
and well drained
Combine flour and baking powder. In a large mixer bowl beat butter and
shortening till butter is foftened. Add sugar and beat till fluffy. Add
egg, milk, orange peel, ;and vanilla and beat well. Add flour mixture and
beat till well mixed. Cover and chill about 30 minutes or till easy to
handle. Shape into two 8" rolls. Wrap and chill for several hours or
overnight. Cut into One fourth inch slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Let
stand 810 minutes to keep dough from cracking. Place a cherry onthe bottom
half of each slice for the bell clappper. Fold in sides of slice,
overlapping at top and slightly covering cherry. Pinch in sides to resemble
bell shape. Bake in 350 degree oven for 12 14 minutes or till done. Remove
and cool. Makes about 64.
