Recipe - Jumbo Molasses Cookies

1 cup Sugar
One half cup Shortening
1 cup Dark molasses
One half cup Water
4 cup Allpurpose flour
1 One half teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1 One half teaspoon Ground ginger
One half teaspoon Ground cloves
One half teaspoon Ground nutmeg
One fourth teaspoon Ground allspice

This is from Betty Crocker's Cookbook, Sixth Edition:
Mix 1 cup sugar and the shortening. Stir in remaining ingredients except
sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll dough One fourth inch thick on generously floured
clothcovered board. Cut into 3inch circles; sprinkle with sugar. Place
about 1 One half inches apart on wellgreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost
no indentation remains when touched, 10 to 12 minutes. Cool 2 minutes;
remove from cookie sheet. Makes about 3 dozen cookies; 115 calories per
cookie.
