1 One half cup Allpurpose flour
1 teaspoon Baking pwd.
One half teaspoon Salt
One half teaspoon Ground cinnamon
One fourth teaspoon Ground cloves
One fourth cup Mott's Natural Apple Sauce
2 tablespoon Vegetable shortening
One half cup Plus 1 Tb. powdered sugar;
divided
1 Egg
One half teaspoon Vanilla
One half cup Strawberry or other fruit
preserves
Preheat oven to 400 F. Spray cooky sheet with nonstick cooking spray. In
small bowl, combine first 5 ingredients. In large bowl, whisk together
apple sauce and shortening until shortening breaks up into peasized
pieces. Add One half cup powdered sugar; stir well. Add egg and vanilla; stir
well. Add flour mixture to apple sauce mixture;stir till well blended.
(Mixture will be stiff) Using flourcoated hands, roll teaspoonfuls of
dough into balls. Place 1 inch apart on cooky sheet. Press thumb gently
into center of each ball. Spoon One half tsp. jam into each indentation. Bake
1215 mins. or till lightly browned. Cool completely on wore
rack;sprinkling with rest of the 1 Tb. pwd. sugar. 2 dozen cookies
