5 cup Tart cooking apples; peeled
and chopped
3 cup Bread crumbs; coarse, fresh
white
5 tablespoon Melted butter
1 cup Brown sugar
1 pn Ground cinnamon
1 pn Ground allspice
1 pn Ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon Grated orange peel
Tart apples such as Spys, Baldwins, Winesaps or Granny Smith.
Toss apples with spices. Drizzle melted butter over bread cubes and toss
until butter is absorbed evenly. Spread bread in bottom of One half qt. souffle'
dish, cover with apples. Sprinkle with orange peel and brown sugar.
Repeat layers until dish is full. Finish with a layer of bread, dot with
butter pieces and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in preheated 375 oven for 3040
minutes until golden.
