Recipe - Grapenut Bread

One half cup Grapenuts
1 cup Sour milk or buttermilk
One half cup Sugar
2 tablespoon Shortening
1 Egg
1 One half cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon Baking soda
One half teaspoon Salt
Soak grapenuts in milk for One half hour. Cream sugar, shortening, and egg. Sift
dry ingredients. Combine all and bake in greased 9x5 loaf pan . 350*
approximately 30 minutes.
Notes This recipe came out of a community cookbook "Flavors of a Vermont
Village" .
