Recipe - German-Style Cooked Apples And Cabbage

Categories: None, German-Style Cooked Apples And Cabbage
Ingredients:

8 cup Shredded red or green
cabbage
5 cup Peeled and cut or sliced up Granny
Smith apples
4 cup Boiling; salted water
4 sl Bacon; minced
1 cup Sliced onion
2 tablespoon Cider vinegar
2 tablespoon Sugar
One half teaspoon Dried fennel seed; crushed,
(optional)

Here's one I haven't tried yet but sounds very tempting. Best part of the
recipe is it is Light and lowfat. I found this in a little booklet called
"Light, Lively & LowFat" is a Prestige Lifestyles Series Special.

In large saucepan combine cabbage, apples and water, simmer 5 minutes or
until cabbage is barely tender. Drain and remove cabbage and apple mixture
to serving bowl. In a large skillet, fry bacon in vinegar, sugar and fennel
seed, if desired. Cook 2 minutes. Pour bacon mixture over cabbage and
apples; mix lightly and serve.

Makes 6 servings.

Note: if using fresh herbs,....plan to use three times the amount of the
dried variety.
