Recipe - Date Nut Bread

1 cup Boiling water
1 One fourth cup Dates; cut in large pieces
2 teaspoon Soda*
2 cup Pillsbury's Best All Purpose
Flour*
1 teaspoon Salt
One half cup Funsten's Nuts; chopped
2 tablespoon Butter
1 cup Firmly packed brown sugar
2 Eggs; unbeaten
BAKE at 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes. MAKES 9 x 5inch loaf. Pour
boiling water over dates and soda. Cool. Sift together flour and salt. Add
nuts, chopped. Blend together the butter and brown sugar or granulated
sugar in mixing bowl. Blend in 2 unbeaten eggs; beat well. Add dry
ingredients alternately with the date mixture, beginning and ending with
dry ingredients. Blend well after each addition. Turn into one 9 x 5 x
3inch pan or 3 No. 2 cans, well greased on the bottom. Bake in moderate
oven (350 degrees) 60 to 70 minutes. Cool before slicing. *For use with
Pillsbury's Best SelfRising Flour, omit soda and salt.
