1 One half cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder
One half teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
One fourth teaspoon Cloves
4 One half cup Walnuts
3 cup Pitted dates
3 cup Raisins
2/3 cup Shortening
One half cup Brown sugar; packed *
2 Eggs

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and
cloves.
Chop walnuts, dates and raisins (by hand or by food chopper).
Cream shortening and gradually beat in brown sugar till fluffy, then add
the eggs, nuts and fruits.
Stir the shortening mixture into flour mixture and drop by teaspoons onto a
greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
* Note: I've added up to Three fourths cup brown sugar. Sometimes with the lesser
amount of brown sugar, I've added a bit of maple syrup.
