Recipe - Apple Rum Cake

CAKE
One fourth cup Shortening
1 cup Sugar
1 Egg
One fourth teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1 cup Flour
2 tablespoon Hot water
1 teaspoon Vanilla
One half cup Chopped nuts
2 One half cup Apples; pared and cubed
RUM SAUCE
One half cup Butter
Three fourths cup Brown sugar
One fourth cup Cream
One half teaspoon Rumflavored extract OR; 12
T. rum
Cake Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining cake ingredients
through apples in order listed. Mix well. Pour into greased, 9inch round
cake pan or pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 4560 minutes.
Rum Sauce Melt butter. Add brown sugar and boil 1 minute. Add cream and
boil a few more seconds. Remove from heat and stir in rum extract or rum.
Serve cake with warm rum sauce.
